From Picky Eater to Foodie

I don’t like labeling, but I am proud to embrace the label,Β Foodie. To me, being a foodie is not just about eating all of the trendiest foods I can find. It’s more about loving and trying all foods and trying to explore and challenge my relationship with it.

I have had a love/hate relationship with food my whole life. I started off the pickiest eater on the planet which essentially evolved into the unhealthiest eater on the planet. As a child my mom would bring me a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to a Chinese food restaurant because I didn’t want to eat anything else. Β I only really ever tried to cook a quesadilla until I was 29. Then as I was bit by a travel bug, I somehow turned into an adventurous eater, I challenged myself to try things I never thought I would try, including foods like jellyfish, raw beef, & fish intestines. I even taught myself to cook and was surprisingly not as bad as I thought I was at it.

All the while my relationship with food has been a yo-yoing, balancing act of dieting and loving food. I’m always trying to find balance with it all, but what it comes down to is that food is a big part of my life. Whether with family or friends, through social media, traveling, or dieting, my life and interests always revolve around food. I might as well document my journey with it. Maybe it can help me grow and gain a better relationship with it since its definitely not going anywhere…
